The head of state of Mexico City, Clara Brugada announced the regularization of e-bikes, which, if exceed the 25 km\/h will be considered as electric motorbikes, and should comply with measures to circulate.<\/p>

In addition, for cyclists to be safer, e-bikes won’t circulate on bikeways or special lanes, such as the shared bus bike lane.<\/p>

Electric bikes will be electric motorcycles<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>

As part of the future regularization of electric bikes, Brugada announced that all
motorized bike that exceeds the 25 km\/h will be considered an electric motorcycle. For that, will be submitted to the same documentation as fuel motorcycles.<\/span><\/p>This means that should have license plate, car circulation card and driver must wear helmet, obligatory. In addition, must respect the rest of regulations indicated on the CDMX Traffic Regulations<\/a>.<\/p>

Restrictions<\/h2>

If considered as motorcycles, their motorists can\u2019t circulate on bikeways, confined lanes and other type of cycling ways. These include cycle paths in green areas and the bus bike shared lane, where cyclists share lane with public transport.<\/p>

The aim is to protect to cyclists, but also to pedestrian. For that reason, e-bikes won\u2019t transit on sidewalks, all type of pedestrian areas neither any confined zone.<\/p>

Regularization of electric bikes will reduce accidents<\/strong><\/h2>

The capital mayor mentioned that, one of the reasons for electric bike regularization is to reduce traffic accidents. According to Brugada,motorcyclists cause the 49% of traffic accidents.<\/p>

In this way, the aim of regularize all the e-bikes that exceed the 25km\/h, is to reduce these accidents. According to studies, any vehicle that circulate over the 30 km\/h can represent a mortal risk for motorist and pedestrian<\/a> if presented a crash or run over. \u00a0<\/p>

And what about electric scooters?<\/strong><\/h2>

Good news for owners of scooters, due regularization won’t be applicable for them, at least, not while the technical limitations of their vehicles don\u2019t allow them to exceed the 25 km\/h.<\/p>

The capital mayor clarifies that scooters are not motorized transports. For that, these can circulate on bikeways<\/a>; if there’s no cycling infrastructure, they have to use the right lane.<\/p>
